This January, I participated in a three day workshop on blog-writing. Check out my blog posts on New Year's (Un)Resolutions and on finding mentors on the new MIT grad admissions blog (click on the titles to be redirected)! More info about the new blog from the MIT news page here.
Philly Love Run!
Ran another half marathon on a chilly, but otherwise pretty, Philadelphia morning!
Path of Professorship Workshop
After months of preparation, today is the start of the 2016 PoP workshop! As part of my graduate community fellowship, I work with the MIT Office of the Dean of Graduate Education to support graduate student programs and events for women.
This workshop is for graduate and postdoctoral women at MIT who are considering a tenure-track position in the fields of science, engineering, and technology. The one-and-a-half day workshop focuses on skills, strategies, and “insider information” necessary to obtain a tenure-track position, to succeed in one, and advance to other positions of leadership. We are extremely excited to have Dr. Susan Hockfield as our keynote this year, and to have Denise Minor running our session on presence and presentation. More info can be found here.
This year I had the pleasure of coordinating the panel on Guiding Principles: How to be a “Quick-Start” Professor with Dr. Amal Ahmed, Dr. Trisha Andrew, and Dr. Angela DePace. The panel discussion focused on topics such as: getting support from your university and department, negotiating for a quick-start lab, and the skills you can hone now that will help you be an effective and successful lab leader, mentor, and principle investigator. I also worked with Denise Minor to coordinate the closing interactive session for the workshop, focused around communication and presentation skills.
Boston half marathon time!
I ran my third half marathon today! The course runs through the Emerald Necklace, which looks pretty fantastic in the fall. I ran the same course last year and struggled a bit with the hills at the end, but this year the runners were greeted with pouring rain and chilly weather, so it was definitely an interesting experience.
Demo's all ready for the Media Lab Spring Member Event!
